Tamhini Ghat, Pune: A Monsoon Drive into Nature’s Lap (2025)

The Misty Surprise So Close to Pune

I felt like I was passing through clouds, mist and nature yesterday, when i went for a day trip to Tamhini Ghat, Pune. One of the most scenic routes near Pune during the monsoon, it made me wonder— is this really real what I’m experiencing right in front of my eyes. Just two hours from the city, the ghat is a lush green paradise, covered in mist and surrounded by rain during the monsoon.

I went on a day trip with my family, taking a break from the chaos of city life, and the visuals from the scenic ghat blew my mind – floating mist, hidden and countless waterfalls, deep valleys and no hustle – just pure enjoyment. I would call it a perfect long drive to the misty ghat. This experience will stay with me for a long time, and I’ll definitely come back to relive it.

Where Exactly is Tamhini Ghat?

Tamhini Ghat is a scenic mountain pass in the Sahyadri Hills that connects Mulshi in Pune district to Mangaon (Raigad district) via State Highway 97. It’s a perfect one-day road trip destination, especially for travelers from Pune and Mumbai.

My Monsoon Experience at Tamhini Ghat

The moment I crossed Mulshi, everything changed— the weather, the landscape, and even the air. The road ahead was covered in fog, and waterfalls cascaded from the peaks down to the road side. People parked their cars along the way to enjoy the waterfalls, the mist in the air, and the sound of flowing water.

I stopped at a hidden spot I found on the Map, a place that offered a 360-degree view of the majestic Tamhini Waterfalls. Just as I began to take it all, everything suddenly vanished into a thick fog, moments later the cold air cleared the amazing view again.

Road Conditions in July 2025

Here’s what I observed on-ground:

  • Best to travel during daylight (8 AM – 6 PM)
  • Phone network drops in multiple zones
  • Some stretches had potholes and mud slush(before Mulshi)
  • If you’re on a bike, wear rain gear and ride slow — landslides are rare but possible after heavy rains.

Best Time to Visit Tamhini Ghat, Pune

  1. The best time to visit Tamhini Ghat is from from July to September to enjoy the monsoon magic, with endless waterfalls flowing from the hills right down to the roads.
  2. Try to avoid late evenings and weekends as heavy fog and traffic can make the journey challenging.
  3. I’d recommend visiting between 7–10 AM for less crowd & best visibility.
