Jammu–Srinagar NH-44 Traffic Advisory | 22 Jan 2026
From 20-01-2026, 1800 hrs to 21-01-2026, 1800 hrs, slow movement was observed on NH-44 due to single-lane traffic at Banihal, Dewal, Nashri–Dalwas and between Marog & Kishtwari Pathar, along with HMV breakdowns on NH-44.
Passengers/LMV operators are advised to prefer daytime travel on Jammu–Srinagar NHW. Night travel should be avoided due to the risk of shooting stones, landslides, and ongoing construction between Ramban and Banihal.
Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline; overtaking and wrong-lane driving will cause congestion.
NH-44 (Jammu–Srinagar National Highway):
Subject to fair weather and better road conditions, LMVs, Passenger Vehicles, HPVs, Private Cars & HMVs (Good Carriers) shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu–Srinagar NH-44 (Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa).
TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall coordinate with TCU Ramban regarding road conditions.
SFs Convoy Movement:
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, Security Forces vehicles shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu–Srinagar NH-44 (Jammu ↔ Srinagar) after confirming NHW status from TCU Ramban.
Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag NH-244:
The road is closed for vehicular movement due to fresh snow accumulation.
SSG Road (Srinagar–Sonamarg–Gumari–Kargil):
Subject to fair weather and good road condition (after BRO green signal), traffic shall be allowed from Srinagar towards Kargil.
LMVs followed by HMVs (up to 08 tyres) with anti-skid chains shall be allowed from Sonamarg towards Kargil between 1100 hrs to 1500 hrs.
Motorists are advised to carry anti-skid chains for better grip on slippery roads.
TCU Srinagar & PCR Kargil will inform all concerned about the cutoff timing.
SFs Convoy moving from Srinagar to Kargil should plan movement so that civil traffic is not disturbed.
Mughal Road (Jammu–Poonch–Shopian–Srinagar):
Subject to fair weather and good road condition (after green signal from GREF), LMVs Passenger/Private Cars with anti-skid chains shall be allowed from both sides (Jammu ↔ Srinagar via Poonch).
Vehicles shall be allowed from Chandimarg (Baffliaz) towards Shopian and Herpora (Shopian) towards Poonch between 1030 hrs to 1430 hrs.
No vehicle shall be allowed after the cutoff timing.
TCU Jammu & TCU Srinagar will inform all concerned.

🚧 NH-44 Jammu–Srinagar Highway: Slow movement observed due to single-lane traffic at Banihal, Dewal, Nashri–Dalwas, Marog–Kishtwari Pather and breakdown of 3 HMV vehicles. Travelers advised daytime travel only; avoid night movement due to HMV operations between Nashri Tunnel–Navayug Tunnel. Lane discipline strictly advised.

NH-44 Jammu–Srinagar: Slow movement reported due to single-lane stretches at Balinalla, Dewal, Nashri–Dalwas & Marog–Kishtwari Pather and breakdown of 2 HMV trucks.
➡️ LMVs advised to travel during daytime only. Avoid night travel as HMV movement between Nashri Tunnel & Navyug Tunnel may cause congestion. Lane discipline is mandatory.

Due to slippery road conditions, tempo travellers, PSVs, and vehicles with seating capacity above 10 passengers are not allowed beyond Tangmarg towards Gulmarg. Passengers must deboard at Tangmarg parking and proceed only in light motor vehicles fitted with proper anti-skid chains.
🚫 Mandatory Rule:
No vehicle without anti-skid chains will be permitted from Tangmarg to Gulmarg until weather and road conditions improve.
