So, this is the story of my Kashmir trip, which I went on with my family. It was a long road journey — we drove all the way from Delhi to Kashmir by car. While we were excited about seeing the usual tourist spots, I also wanted to explore a few places that are less crowded and a bit offbeat. That’s how we decided to visit Razdan Pass, and then continue onwards to the beautiful Gurez Valley. Razdan Pass is around 100 kilometres from Srinagar, and Gurez Valley is about 125 kilometres further.
On one side, I was enjoying the classic beauty of Kashmir’s valleys, and on the other hand, we discovered this hidden gem that had even more stunning views. The weather here changes in just minutes, which made the whole experience feel even more adventurous and exciting.

On reaching Razdan Pass, I found a good spot for a photo shoot and this is my photo. There was snow all around, clouds and a view which made me feel like I should keep looking at it.
Since these are high-altitude passes, the weather can get unpredictable very quickly. That’s why we didn’t stay too long — just 10 to 12 minutes at the top — but honestly, that was enough. I had never heard of Razdan Pass before, but when I reached there, it felt like stepping into a snow paradise. There was snow all around — some freshly fallen, some old — and the surrounding mountains were completely covered in white. It looked absolutely magical. The road up to the pass was mostly good, though it got a bit rough near the top due to snow buildup.
Important Things to Know Before Visiting Razdan Pass
1. Security Check & Entry Pass – if you visit Razdan Pass and Gurez Valley, you must get an entry pass from the Bandipora District Administration. This is because the area falls close to the Line of Control (LoC) and is sensitive from a security point of view. So, please make sure to carry valid ID proofs like Aadhaar or PAN card.
2. Weather at Razdan Pass – Razdan Pass is located at an altitude of around 11,700 feet (3,557 metres), so the weather here changes very quickly. You might experience sudden cold winds or light snowfall even in summers. The best time to visit is from May to October and always carry warm clothes, even if you’re going in summer.
3. Road Conditions – The road from Srinagar to Bandipora is smooth and in good condition,After Bandipora, the road there is mostly well-maintained, but gets narrow, steep, and winding as you approach the top. After Razdan Pass, the road condition may deteriorate due to snow, landslides, or rough patches, especially during or after rain. Petrol pumps are limited, so tank up in Bandipora or earlier.
4. Photography & Scenic Views – It’s a paradise for photography lovers, but make sure to avoid sensitive areas (ask army personnel if in doubt). Razdan Pass offers some of the most surreal Himalayan views — snow-covered peaks, deep valleys, and unspoiled terrain.
If you’re planning to continue towards Gurez Valley, try to start your day early from Srinagar or Bandipora. The earlier you reach Razdan Pass, the better the visibility and weather conditions — plus, it gives you more time to explore Gurez Valley.
